The team at GlassRooms were asked recently to help Hickory’s Smokehouse raise money for Claire House during The Open Golf Championship, which was held on the Wirral in July. The American themed restaurant launched a special ‘Guess The Golf Balls’ promotion to run throughout the Open Golf fortnight. They asked us to make a bespoke glass box structure to hold an undisclosed number of golf balls. The giant structure, housed on the restaurant’s sunny terrace, was then packed with thousands of golf balls. Diners were asked to donate £1 and then fill in a special score card containing their guess of how many balls were in the box. The prize was a luxury day out at the Open Golf final with an All-American breakfast, post event dinner and drinks and their very own chauffeur thrown in! Claire House’s very own mascot, Claire Bear launched the campaign and Debbie Smith, Wirral Area Fundraiser for Claire House commented, ‘We are absolutely thrilled that Hickory’s have chosen Claire House as their nominated Charity for this exciting promotion. It’s great fun and has raised a significant amount of money for the charity.’ ‘We’re delighted to be able to help out Hickory’s Smokehouse by building this glass structure for the competition’ commented Keith Nethercott of GlassRooms.com, ‘as big golf fans and supporters of Claire House, it’s our pleasure to be involved.’ Hickory’s general manager Chris Heyes said ‘We were very excited about the Open coming to Wirral and this just seemed like the perfect way of marking the event and giving something back to the local community at the same time.’ The winning guess of 11,382, was guessed by Hickory’s customer Mark Schoonheim, he was only a few balls out!
